Summary of Work: * The Senior Petroleum Engineer (SPE) reports directly to the Assistant Director of the Oil and Gas Division. * This position will be expected to carry out the mission of the division by being actively involved in the process of reviewing and approving applications involving stripper well, restimulation well, and secondary and tertiary recovery project tax exemptions. * The SPE will also be expected to consistently develop and maintain data sets as requested for analysis and other engineering job duties as needed. Essential Functions: * Review and approve applications related to oil extraction tax exemptions and reductions, including stripper well and stripper well property exemptions, restimulation well tax reductions, and secondary and tertiary recovery project exemptions * Handle inquiries and provide guidance to landowners, mineral owners, operators, and governmental agencies on technical topics such as pooling, spacing, commingling, unitization, risk penalties, and tax exemptions * Review and process engineering and operational requests, including, Temporary Abandonment (TA) requests, Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) potential status determinations, vertical completion reviews, additions of perforations recompletions, wellbore commingling * Prepare risk penalty orders and others as assigned * Provide backup support for well log and geologic analysis * Develop, manage, and analyze technical datasets; prepare and present findings to senior leadership as requested * Offer technical support to management and field operations; collaborate with internal teams on cross-functional projects * Participate actively in the oil and gas hearing process and support the legislative process as requested * Contribute to monthly Director’s Cut data compilation and presentations * Lead or assist with advanced engineering tasks and special projects assigned by supervisor * Mentor and support the development of less experienced engineering staffMinimum Qualifications: * Bachelor’s degree with major course work in petroleum engineering, geological engineering, geology or relative engineering discipline * 8+ years of industry related experience * Non-engineer candidates will be considered with technical related degrees and relevant experience provided all other qualifications have been met * Minimal travel to field offices as needed. Valid drivers license is required * Knowledge, Skills and Attributes Critical for this Role: * Technical Skills: Proficiency in engineering software, database management and technical computer applications relevant to petroleum engineering.
